Julie Zawisza, Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research’s (CDER), Office of Training and Communication, at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, oversees CDER’s public outreach and communications programs. From 2005-2006 she was FDA acting Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs, and from 2006-2008 FDA Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs, where she directed FDA’s agency-wide public affairs and media relations initiatives and programs. She has more than 25 years experience in both federal government and in the private sector in healthcare communications, regulatory affairs, public policy, public relations and healthcare delivery.

Paul Buckman is the Director of Online Communications within CDER’s Office of Communications at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where his responsibilities include providing strategic direction and leadership for their web site. aul has extensive experience developing web-related information strategies and launching creative content for a variety of audiences. Before joining CDER, Paul was the Director of Broadband Programming for Scripps Networks Interactive in Knoxville, TN. Paul has more than 10 years of network experience and has produced and developed a wide range of online content for MSNBC.com, the Today Show, Weekend Today, and Dateline NBC which included producing live broadcast events and coordinating breaking news events for the Web.

Peter Pitts is Partner/Director of Global Regulatory Policy & Health Initiatives at Porter Novelli and President of the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest. From 2002-2004 Peter was FDA’s Associate Commissioner for External Relations, serving as senior communications and policy adviser to the Commissioner. He supervised FDA's Office of Public Affairs, Office of the Ombudsman, Office of Special Health Issues, Office of Executive Secretariat, and Advisory Committee Oversight and Management, and is a Special Government Employee (SGE) consultant to the FDA’s Risk Communications Advisory Committee. His comments and commentaries on health care policy issues regularly appear in the nation’s largest news publications and programs.
