Systems thinking is an excellent body of knowledge for improving program performance.  This workshop will explore how systems thinking, lean methods and plan-do-study-act cycles are being used to change organizational cultures within the public sector.  We will describe how organizations become focused on customers and create an environment for learning and improvement.

Key concepts that will be discussed are below:

  • Evils of batching and pushing work
  • Time killers
  • Operational data for real time management and improvement
  • Tools: value stream mapping, Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles, and process behavior analysis
  • Experiences in the field
