Government Communications, Internal & External: Event Roundup

Over the past two months, ALI Conferences hosted two trainings dedicated to improving both internal and external government communications within various agencies.

5th Annual Government Employee Engagement & Internal Communications Strategies Training

Hosted September 17th through September 19th, 2019 in Washington, D.C., government communicators gathered to hear from their peers at organizations including, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Argonne National Laboratory, U.S. Secret Service, the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, and more.

Prior to the educational sessions starting, over 30 attendees went around the room and discussed what were the current struggles in their positions. Some attendees spoke on difficulties with change management, technology fails, begin short-staffed, and a lack of inclusivity in the workplace culture.

Some attendees came to the training with an idea of strategies they would like to use to improve their challenges, but needed some training and inspiration on how to implement those tactics across their agency. Among other strategies presented, attendees learned how to own their success stories, repurpose current and past content, match their workload to their resources, and get the permission to say no when they are over-stretched.

Social Media, Mobile & Video for Government

Fall is beautiful in our hometown of Chicago, and the 80th floor of the Aon Center at the Mid-America Club provided some amazing vistas for the Social Media, Mobile & Video for Government training, hosted on October 15th through October 17th, 2019. But those views are only a bonus to the strategies and ideas that various government communicators were able to bring back to their agency.

The day kicked off with a networking session and all the attendees getting to know each other a bit more, what their challenges are, and what they hope to take away from the training. Then the sessions began with diving into topics like social media accessibility, how to utilize social media for better customer care, how to effectively tell engaging stories through video, and so much more.

Thank you to all our attendees, speakers, and event facilitators for sharing their experiences with us and making each event special and educational.
